Our Beliefs

University United Methodist Church is a proud United Methodist congregation. We believe that all people are of sacred worth. As United Methodists we adhere to wesleyan theology.

One God

We believe in one triune God: Father, Son, Holy Spirit. All three parts of the trinity are equal and co-exist.

Humanity

Human beings are created equally and made in God’s image. We exists as a part of creation.

Holy Communion

We believe in two sacraments: Baptism and Holy Communion. We believe in co-transubstantiation. Christ is present alongside the bread and cup (without changing the physical properties). We believe all are welcome to take communion.

One Church

We exist as a part of the church universal. The church exists in the world as the body of Christ. We are an extension of Christ’s life and ministry in the world.

Jesus

We believe in the mystery of salvation through Jesus Christ. God became human in Jesus of Nazareth; and his life, death and resurrection demonstrate God's redeeming love.

Social Holiness

We believe that our faith should be in mission. As United Methodists we believe that acts of mercy, compassion, and justice are necessary to practice our faith. Equally, works of piety are vital to sustain our faith.

The Bible

We believe in both the Old and New Testaments. The Bible is the primary source of faith and practice.

Baptism

Baptism is a sign of our salvation that marks the start of our lifelong journey as disciples of Jesus Christ. Because baptism is not dependent on our work, we believe any person can be baptized regardless of age.

Grace

God’s Grace is with each of us throughout our lives. By grace God prepares us, justifies us, and then continues grow us as followers of Jesus Christ. We believe grace emmenates in 3 forms: prevenient, justifying, and sanctifying.

Personal Holiness

We believe that our faith should be in mission. As United Methodists we believe that acts of mercy, compassion, and justice are necessary to practice our faith. Equally, works of piety are vital to sustain our faith.

3 Simple Rules

United Methodists believe in living out our faith with 3 essential rules: Do Good. Do No Harm. Stay In Love With God.
